My letter is.... Y
As Moda's historian I've been given the philosophical letter Y. At the risk of sounding like a 3-year-old, I'll answer each question with another: Why, Y, Y?
Click on this link. Y? Because you'll find the Y pattern here.
Y Spell with Fabric?
- Each day on the blog hop you've been collecting a letter, number or shape for a quilt you can make from a Moda Jelly roll of 2-1/2" strips.
- Because it's a quilting tradition. I'll show you some of my favorite pictures of antique quilts with something to say.

I love the time in my sewing room putting a quilt together, just love the creative process and the peace that it brings.
ReplyDeleteY I make quilts. So many reasons. One is to keep my family warm. Two is to add charm and color to my home. Three is because the inner beast in me told me to. Never fight against the inner beast.
ReplyDeleteI love creating something that can be used to express comfort to others.
ReplyDeleteI mainly quilt to relax. Sharing the art of quilting is my second reason to quilt. The more quilters we can develop the better!!
ReplyDeleteI make quilts for the girl time! Why you say?
ReplyDeleteI love putting pretty fabrics together and making designs with them. I love snuggling under quilts and I love making them for my friends and family. Its how I express my creativity.
ReplyDeleteQuilting allows my artistic nature to be released! I just love the colors and the designs.
ReplyDeleteI make quilts because I love to play with color and fabrics and designs. It's very rewarding to see the end result of a project and especially to see the face of someone who gets a special gift.
ReplyDeleteLove all the wordy quilts.
I make quilts because it feels great to be creating and sewing, and because I can't stop!
ReplyDelete"Y" I make quilts .... not only is the process fun, creative, relaxing and useful, quilting is what "Y" like to do with "Y's" free time. Happy quilting!
ReplyDeleteI make quilts because I love them, I love to sew, I love to give them as gifts and I love that I am part of a long tradition.

ReplyDeleteY - I love to make quilts because I love the challenge and I love to give them as gifts to those I love.
ReplyDeleteI make quilts because I love them, I love to sew, I love to give them as gifts.
ReplyDeleteSuch a lovely clever post, this has been fun.
ReplyDeleteI love to make quilts because I can get lost in the process and tune the problems of the world out. It is a challenge and very rewarding to complete one, gives you a real sense of accomplishment. Love choosing the fabrics. Would love to win. Thanks
ReplyDeleteI love to make quilts because it is a form of artistic release for me that is also practical since it can be used (either by myself or whoever I gift it to.)
ReplyDeleteY I make quilts ... seriously, not sure why - it's an obsession! I know why I make specific quilts (gifts, babies, etc.), but those make up a small percentage of my in progress or in planning stages quilts. Maybe it's the tactile pleasure? Maybe it's a hobby that has a neverending need for one more thing - nothing wrong with a good shopping opportunity. How can you possibly have too many quilts?? Too much fabric?? Too many notions?? You can certainly have too small a sewing room, tho!
ReplyDeleteI make quilts because it reminds me of my much loved grandmother. We used to quilt together.
ReplyDeleteY? ---- selfish enjoyment of creative focus with the result of an unselfish product for others enjoyment and comfort
ReplyDeleteI like to quilt because I can step away from everything and zone out. Its a very relaxing craft.
ReplyDeleteThe reason I make quilts, table runners, etc., is that I love to create things and because, after I'm gone, there will be memories of me left behind for my family and friends.
ReplyDeleteI make quilts because I can't NOT make quilts - It's a compulsion. I like the way the quilt top suddenly comes together after a lot of tedious work with tiny pieces - It finally LOOKS like a quilt. Best of all, I like the quilty feel of the basted layers as I quilt it on my sewing machine - It finally FEELS like a quilt.
ReplyDeleteI love to make quilts because it is creative , rewarding , relaxing , and I have met so many wonderful friends. Thanks for the opportunity to win !
ReplyDeleteY do I make quilts? Y I guess it's because I love to....Y what else is so much fun!
ReplyDeleteI make quilts because it make me feel confident and successful to make something practical and beautiful. Besides, it's fun.
ReplyDeleteI make quilts because I wanted to leave behind memories and keepsakes for my only child to pass on to my grandchildren....a bit of history.
ReplyDeleteY do I make quilts? I want to leave a legacy of love for my children. They have seen the time, the love, and the creativity that goes into each of my quilts. To me, a quilt says, "I love you. I want you to be warm and cozy, wrapped in an expression of my love for you."
ReplyDeleteMaking quilts gives me a chance to be creative and make something useful that provides warmth and love.
ReplyDeleteLove those antique quilts. I have only made quilts to give away as gifts. I don't want to make them just to say I've made them, or put them in a pile somewhere. I want them to be loved and used. Thanks for a chance to win and thanks for sharing your Y.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love fabrics. I love the process of quilts and most definitely sleep and nap under more then 1 and switch off often!
ReplyDeleteI like to quilt because it is creative and uses my brain.
ReplyDeleteI make quilts because it makes me happy and it's cheaper then a psychiatrist. Really I love giving them away.
ReplyDeleteAs usual, you have the cleverest answers to the questions.
ReplyDeleteI make quilts because I just love shapes, fabrics and color. I have more ideas than time.
Y do I make quilts? Well, it is so I can continue to buy fabric. If I don't use the fabric I have I will run out of room. But it is also a great creative release for.
ReplyDeleteI make quilts because it's my creative outlet, it's relaxing and relieves stress. This blog hop has been fun and I can't wait to get started on my quilt using the letters that I've gathered along the way. Thanks for keeping me inspired!
ReplyDeleteI make quilts because it's relaxing, fun to create and wonderful to spend time with my grandma who has taught me everything I know about quilting!
ReplyDeleteI'm quite the beginner making lots of blocks and getting my feet. I started this art after watching my mom hand quilt all of my grandmother's unfinished blocks and knew I could do it faster by machine. Thanks for the chance.
ReplyDeleteI love the "me" time and I love to see the look on the people's faces once I show them a finished quilt top (namely my husband) I also love to see the quilt blocks come together to make a pattern, it makes my heart skip a beat and say to myself "I made that" Just pure satisfaction.
ReplyDeleteThanks for including me.

ReplyDeleteI forgot to answer your question...I love to quilt because it's nice to make something usefull for the ones we love. Also it's destressing.

ReplyDeleteI like to quilt because it makes me happy. Shopping for and buying fabric makes me deliriously happy (don't tell my husband lol), planning and dreaming of what I will make makes me happy, each step along the way makes me happy in varying degrees (especially the quilting part) and admiring the finished quilt makes me over the moon happy. Giving it away makes me a special kind of happy too. The women who made those fabulous quilts you've shown (especially liked the presidents quilt) probably felt the same way. That gives me a connection to them - the strong, brave women who came before me and laid down the foundation for this great country in which we live. Thanks for the great post and for the chance to win your beautiful fabrics!

ReplyDeleteI love being creative ... I've done stitching and quilting since I was young ... starting with cross-stitch on pre-printed panels and moving into counted cross stitch, candlewicking, chicken scratch work and then in my college years counted needlepoint. After college I got into quilting, but had a lot of discouraging voices around me and I gave it up. But in my mid-30's I came back to it - and have been going strong since. It's a creative outlet. I love to see the finished product -- and how nice to have something that will decorate a room, or keep you warm when you're done. What could be better?

ReplyDeleteMaking quilts is a creative outlet and it is something I actually can do!
