Y Spell It With Fabric?

My letter is....                                  Y

As Moda's historian I've been given the philosophical letter Y. At the risk of sounding like a  3-year-old,  I'll answer each question with another: Why, Y, Y?

Click on this link. Y? Because you'll find the Y pattern here.

Y Spell with Fabric?

  • Each day on the blog hop you've been collecting a letter, number or shape for a quilt you can make from a Moda Jelly roll of 2-1/2" strips.

  • Because it's a quilting tradition. I'll show you some of my favorite pictures of antique quilts with something to say.

Tomorrow February 28
Click here at the Cutting Table blog:http://modafabrics.blogspot.com/

Y? Because the setting directions will be posted. And all the winners will be announced on ALL Designer Blogs.
Here are some answers to more questions:

My initials?

BB

My favorite quilt block..........
Log Cabin.
Y? because there are so many variations.

My favorite book, movie or television show...

His Gal Friday with Cary Grant & Rosalind Russell
Y - the snappy dialogue never fails to make me laugh out loud.

Ann Horn's initial quilt
from the Wisconsin Quilt Search

Something I like......

Quilts with words
Y. Because people have something to say.
This one says things like
"Yes We Have No Bananas"
"Say it with Music"

This top commemorates events in 1937
"Eunice Johnson got first place on crochet rug
at the county fair
October 1937"
Sentiment

Advertising

The year of the Chicago World's Fair

A list of the presidents up to 1933

My friends and I have been working on a wool
quilt with embroidered words since 2010

We have a lot to say.

Leave a comment and tell me Y you make quilts.
We'll send one of you some fabric......

The give-away is over. Y?
Because that's the rules.

Scroll up to the post of February 28th to see the winners.

Y I make quilts. So many reasons. One is to keep my family warm. Two is to add charm and color to my home. Three is because the inner beast in me told me to. Never fight against the inner beast.

I love to make quilts because it is a form of artistic release for me that is also practical since it can be used (either by myself or whoever I gift it to.)

Janet said...

Y I make quilts ... seriously, not sure why - it's an obsession! I know why I make specific quilts (gifts, babies, etc.), but those make up a small percentage of my in progress or in planning stages quilts. Maybe it's the tactile pleasure? Maybe it's a hobby that has a neverending need for one more thing - nothing wrong with a good shopping opportunity. How can you possibly have too many quilts?? Too much fabric?? Too many notions?? You can certainly have too small a sewing room, tho!

I make quilts because it reminds me of my much loved grandmother. We used to quilt together.

I make quilts because I can't NOT make quilts - It's a compulsion. I like the way the quilt top suddenly comes together after a lot of tedious work with tiny pieces - It finally LOOKS like a quilt. Best of all, I like the quilty feel of the basted layers as I quilt it on my sewing machine - It finally FEELS like a quilt.

I like to quilt because it makes me happy. Shopping for and buying fabric makes me deliriously happy (don't tell my husband lol), planning and dreaming of what I will make makes me happy, each step along the way makes me happy in varying degrees (especially the quilting part) and admiring the finished quilt makes me over the moon happy. Giving it away makes me a special kind of happy too. The women who made those fabulous quilts you've shown (especially liked the presidents quilt) probably felt the same way. That gives me a connection to them - the strong, brave women who came before me and laid down the foundation for this great country in which we live. Thanks for the great post and for the chance to win your beautiful fabrics!

I love being creative ... I've done stitching and quilting since I was young ... starting with cross-stitch on pre-printed panels and moving into counted cross stitch, candlewicking, chicken scratch work and then in my college years counted needlepoint. After college I got into quilting, but had a lot of discouraging voices around me and I gave it up. But in my mid-30's I came back to it - and have been going strong since. It's a creative outlet. I love to see the finished product -- and how nice to have something that will decorate a room, or keep you warm when you're done. What could be better?

Been stitchin' and sewin' since I was very young and never stopped. I love quilting (started at at age 70) and wished I had started at 5 instead of being so intimated by it that I put it off for so long!! Satisfying, relaxing, and leaving a little "piece" of me behind. All my children and grandchildren (and great grandson) love their quilts. Made for friends and charity with love for all.

Because I love fabric. I can't think of a better way to take my love of fabric and sewing and combine them to make something that will either be used until it's thread bare or gently used and treasured for generations. It makes me happy.

I started quilting to keep myself busy during winter months here in New England. Never did I realize how much joy it would bring me to shop for fabrics to build up my stash and the wonderful friends I would meet along the way.

I started making quilts as therapy - no really! I had an incredibly stressful job, lots of issues with a family run business, not enough time for myself, all the usual stuff. I found quilting forced me to focus and commit to something that had an end in sight (eventually)and allowed me both artistic freedom and a much needed sense of accomplishment. Deep, huh?

I love playing with the color and texture of fabric, and seeing something finite come together. (My lawyer job does not always offer that sense of completion...)

I quilt to relax, I'm an Industrial Engineer by day and work is pretty hectic at times. So my time to me is when I sit in front of my machine and nothing else matters.
