Some of these quilt wrecks were made in the days when
quilts stayed on the bed.
So let's hope whoever made this complicated pineapple
about 1880 never noticed how one corner....
well, goes somewhere in a handbasket.
Same time period---different problem.
Don't forget to step back and look before you quilt it.
I think she got only one row correct.
But then again---who am I to judge correctness?
This post was wonderful and gave me several good laughs. It makes me feel better to know I'm in good company when I make those mistakes. I doubt my errors will ever make it into a museum, though. Thanks for the fun.

ReplyDeleteI have to wonder if you've discovered in all of your extensive research, what was going on in the lives of these and similar quilt makers. Did they have one or two children hanging on their skirts as they tried to make soap, stoke the wood stove, clean the fireplace, chase the cattle, butcher the chicken and sit down to stitch. We can only imagine how very exhausting their lives were. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteMistakes maybe...and yet I seem to find these quilts more interesting than the more perfect ones. What is wrong with me? Am I just tired of perfection? I just love these.
ReplyDeleteGypsy---it's got nothing to do with two children hanging on your skirts. Just things like bad measurement, bad directional orientation (I used to work in special ed), no design wall and a stubborn unwillingness to rip. All of which afflict me.

ReplyDeleteI am guilty of bloopers like that too. Especially the tiny weeny little pieces pineapple (which is totally awesome by the way) with its flipped blocks. Yep, that's me! ;^)

This must be why we love out design walls! If these is a block in the wrong place, it seems to never show itself until the quilting is finished.
