Deb Rowden & I have hung our show at the Iowa Quilt Museum in Winterset. The theme is Out of Control: Quilts That Break the Rules.
We explained the rules and how to break them in the labels.
We borrowed quilts from friends with great collections,
like Julie Silber.
And Scott Heffley
Deb and stacks
But we had plenty of our own to show.
There are about 30 quilts on the walls.
There will be digital programming and a catalog. I'll keep you posted.
I made a 6 minute video and posted it on my Facebook page. I still have a lot to learn about videos besides they take up a lot of digital space. If it goes too fast you can hit the pause button.https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100011019971781
The exhibit is up until October 4, 2020. The museum is open and quite
safe to visit. Here's a link:
OMG - I love these! Thank you for doing this exhibit. We need more of these!
ReplyDeleteThe Quilt Police must be clutching their pearls and having conniptions and palpitations.
There are some great examples of real creativity here....
I wish the road to Iowa Museum was not long. I would have loved to come and see this exhibit in person. Glad I got to get a glimpse of it when I did!
ReplyDeleteI love these quilts! They 'tell' more interesting stories than perfect quilts. Perhaps a sub title might be Free Spirt Quilts: Quilt Makers unfettered by Rules!
ReplyDeleteVery interesting! And I LOVED the photo of that "unhappy" little girl, all dolled up for the camera. Brought back my own not-so-fond memories of how our mother dressed us up for church every Sunday morning ... ugh, those awful itchy ole crinolines!
ReplyDeleteI had a friend who stopped in and got to watch some of the exhibit going up. She was so thrilled! These look like great quilts. I wonder what their friends said at the time. Always good to be an outlier, I think. Thanks for sharing these!
ReplyDeleteOh they were too good to miss! I love the churkendoose bird or pterodactyl even!
ReplyDeleteLove the exhibit, wish I could go,. The first quilt pictured makes me think that maybe it was made for a bed with foot-posts and the lady didn't want to have to fuss when making the bed. That is what I'd do.
ReplyDeletethis is super inspirational. I also have trouble with "pieces too small" and I almost always change my mind about a quilt top once I am in the process of constructing it. Love these examples
ReplyDeleteLove it! And as inspirational as well done quilts are, somehow these strike me as even more so. As in "that's not a mistake - it's an opportunity for creative problem solving". Or "rules? we don't need no stinkin' rules".
ReplyDelete"Pieces Too Small to Save" sounds like a great title for a book or exhibit....
ReplyDeleteI have to admit that rogue quilts are my favorites. What a great exhibition of free thinking.
ReplyDeleteThe perfect quilt show for these wacky times. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI thoroughly enjoyed this post - these quilts just put a smile on my face!
ReplyDeleteI've always enjoyed your posts about the no rules quilts!! I only wish I was close enough to attend in person.
ReplyDeleteA GREAT SPELL CASTER (DR. EMU) THAT HELP ME BRING BACK MY EX GIRLFRIEND.
ReplyDeleteAm so happy to testify about a great spell caster that helped me when all hope was lost for me to unite with my ex-girlfriend that I love so much. I had a girlfriend that love me so much but something terrible happen to our relationship one afternoon when her friend that was always trying to get to me was trying to force me to make love to her just because she was been jealous of her friend that i was dating and on the scene my girlfriend just walk in and she thought we had something special doing together, i tried to explain things to her that her friend always do this whenever she is not with me and i always refuse her but i never told her because i did not want the both of them to be enemies to each other but she never believed me. She broke up with me and I tried times without numbers to make her believe me but she never believed me until one day i heard about the DR. EMU and I emailed him and he replied to me so kindly and helped me get back my lovely relationship that was already gone for two months.
