Kansas Sunflower
By QuiltingGammy
My Grandmother's Choice blog, a free pattern every week to recall the fight for women's rights, has created a fussy-cutting phenomenom. Fussy-cutting is the term we use for centering a fabric motif in the patchwork.
It's not a new idea. Here's a mid-19th-century silk quilt from the Kentucky Quilt Project with a focus on politician Henry Clay's portrait .

What a nice surprise this morning! Thanks for the mention and for the project.. I am really enjoying the challenge of interpreting the blocks in 2 ways.
ReplyDeleteEvery week is like a small quilt show. They are really great to see. Thanks for helping us do this.
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice post. Love them all, especially American Homestead's group. Thank you for the mention; your block posting is the highlight of my week (I know, I should probably get a life lol).
ReplyDeleteKaren---forget the life. Your virtual friends would miss you. Love the way you are printing the pictures for your blocks.
ReplyDeleteWow, well done quilters! Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteSo much to learn about how to use fabric in different ways!
ReplyDeleteWow - this is so inspiring to see the many different effects that can be created with the variety of fabrics. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThese are gorgeous. I love seeing what different fabrics can do with the same blocks. Very inspiring.
ReplyDeleteI really love how the fabric can make the block and a nice idea to try with fabrics we like and want to show off the prints.

It is a pleasure to test sew the blocks and then wait to see what wonderful things you all do! Having the Flickr site is a great way to post our pictures to share and learn from each other.
ReplyDeleteI've been fussy cutting for decades, even when suitable fabrics were hard to find. Now we have a gold mine of about any fabrics we could possible want.
Thanks to all of you for posting your pictures on Flickr for our on-going quilt show. I especially admire those of you who are making small blocks. If you are making 2 blocks each week, well, you are having double fun!
It's not too late to join us!
Happy sewing everyone!
Wow!! These are wonderful!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great surprise today! Thank you for another fabulous block of the week project! The talent shown week after week is incredible and we all learn from each other. I agree with Becky, it is not too late to join this wonderful group and meet everyone! The flicker show and tell weekly is so inspiring that many of us are making 2 blocks a week and loving it! Thank you Barbara!
