Zombie Sue & a Wardrobe Malfunction or Two

Zombies are everywhere.

I've often mentioned that when you applique a human being
simple errors can appear to have deep meaning.
We notice right away that the pattern is off.

Legs too long, arms in the wrong place...

Here we have Sunbonnet Sue (or the Little Dutch Girl)
and her friend....
The Pillsbury dough boy?

This is one strange quilt.
We have the boy

We have the Dutch girl

And then we have a Dutch windmill.
Wait a minute, that's not a windmill.
It's somebody's overalls.

Maybe he took them off because he thought
they made him look fat.

  1. Zombie Sue is a riot! I've never seen one like this. I love SS quilts.

  2. We'd be quick to pan a quilt like this if someone made it now, but after several decades it's quaintly amusing. Thanks for the post!

  6. A "Zombie Sue" pattern would probably sell well these days...

  7. I never liked the S Sue quilts as they seem over simplifications of the charming Sunbonnet Babies. The boys, wether Overall Sam or Little Dutch Boy look like they're taking a whiz. Maybe the Sues are hiding their faces in embarrassment.
