Three months 'til Christmas Eve!

My stitch group likes to do a tree quilt for a charity Christmas tree auction every year. My job is overwhelming Chairman Georgann with ideas. Here's one.

I took five blocks from the Juniper and Mistletoe book

that Karla Menaugh and I did a few years ago.

I Photoshopped The Morris Jewels fabric collection

(in shops now) onto the trees for a simple applique baby quilt.

Cutting:

See the book's  pattern instructions for the five blocks, which are cut 12" x 14" for backgrounds

before being appliqued, then trimmed to 10-1/2" x 12-1/2".

For the large background strip on top:

Cut a rectangle 33-1/2" x 50-1/2"

For the smaller strip on the bottom:

Cut a rectangle 5-1/2" x 50-1/2"

If you want to do the leaves and berries in scrappy fashion you can use a Charm Pack of 5" squares, mixing and matching the various hues. 

If you'd rather have all the leaves match in each block get an additional fat quarter of a medium Bella solid. I show it as a darker pink (9900-27 Thirties Pink)

You also need 4 fat quarters of  The Morris Jewels, a red (Ruby), blue (Sapphire), purple (Garnet)  and yellow-green (Emerald).

Background:

You may want to use a very light Moda Bella Solid, maybe one with a slight pink cast like 9900-30 Baby Pink as I show at the top of the page here, or a more neutral white like 9900-12 Natural.

2 yards will give you the large rectangles and background for 3 applique blocks plus binding.
