Happy Jubilee

Queen Elizabeth II is celebrating 60 years on the throne this week.
I remember watching the coronation on our new television.

I was hooked.

A Diamond Jubilee: Sixty years and a lot of corgis

Someone found this pearlie memorial on Etsy.

The postage stamp has applique ideas.

Royals fans might make a quilt to celebrate the Jubilee year. But textiles with appropriate images are in short supply, although the British seem quite fond of celebratory tea towels. The one above was printed for the Silver Jubilee in 1977.

A search of online auctions and stores finds many new tea towels.

I was hoping there would be an official panel--- sort of like the one printed in 1810 when George III celebrated fifty years on the throne. But all I can find is towels---which can be cut up.

See more about the George III panel here

The quilt made from the panel above is in the collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum. See these links:

I digitally altered the George III panel.

And then I started thinking about the corgis.

Click here and you will find a PDF with two small panels and one larger one to make some Jubilee miniquilts. Print these on prepared cotton and make quilts. Send me pictures.

UPDATE:
Well that's the trouble with links--they disappear.
Here's a jpg picture. Click on it and save it as a jpg or a word file and print it to 7" wide. Should work.

My first draft---I'm going to have to add some applique to make it better centered, I think.

My sister Jane is blogging about corgis today too.

  3. I love Jubilee celebrations and the Brits know how to do it well. I wish I started on a union jack quilt earlier. Thank you for all the photo, really enjoyed it.

We didn't watch a lot of tv in our house, but disney was always a family affair.

  6. And I thought I was the only one who was thinking about using Jubilee tea towel as the center for a quilt! The one I picked up in London two weeks ago has a crown wearing corgi in the center. I plan to surround it with pieced Union Jacks in coordinationg colors

  9. Your corgi panel really made me smile! I am sure Her Majesty would love it! She had terrible weather for the Jubilee - I don't know whether you saw it on TV. It is sad that Prince Phillip became ill and missed a lot of it - I felt really sorry for her. If you want any Jubilee memorabilia from here in England I will glady send some! We all have bunting in our gardens ready for the Olympics next!!
