I visited the house on a trip to Washington,DC. It would have been wonderful to live there.
In the first years after the war Lincoln was not yet an national icon and I think many people made log cabin quilts, partly because the are easy to do and you can play with colors and settings. Was the block called Log Cabin from the start?Bonniehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09304227402320174688noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-289466493716180465.post-41100613313334836522010-01-20T04:48:34.275-06:002010-01-20T04:48:34.275-06:00I am truly inspired and intrigued by this post. But it has given me wonderful inspiration as I document my family quilting history. Daniel is a 7th great grand uncle of mine. I had to use the Family Tree Maker relationship tool to find out what level cousin Sara was to me (1st cousin 7x removed). It was neat to find that and see something my ancestors did. Lee is also a big favorite of mine. He was very conflicted about the war and he really struggled on which side to serve as both sides wanted him. Ultimately he decided to defend Virginia. He said he could not fight against her so he must defend her.Robynhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16662240480351466448noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-289466493716180465.post-25323072776186143822010-01-19T20:03:50.460-06:002010-01-19T20:03:50.460-06:00What an interesting piece, Barbara. My husband is a history buff.
He did not know it was Lee's birthday today as he was headed out into
the blustery weather unusual for California. I myself tea in hand, will
head back to bed to catch a few more minutes of sleep. I love what you
said about Lee's peacemaking ablities. I had heard about Mary's inheritance of Arlington. Yes, it was a tragedy what happened.
It is so good to read your blog. Now I will have to see if I can locate
this book and the Lee/Grant panel.Quilt Enthusiasthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07340649511267898877noreply@blogger.com
