I've been making myself Presidential campaign fabric
for the last couple of elections. Designed some Hillary Clinton & Barack Obama
prints, which were great souvenirs of the glorious and the god-almighty awful.
So it's time to dust off the old Photoshop machine and convert an antique print into a contemporary fabric. Here's the repeat in an 8-1/2" x 11" JPG that you can print on pre-treated cotton with your ink jet printer.
Three different colorways.
I'd like to put this up on Spoonflower to be ordered on demand there, which I did with the 2016 and 2012 prints but their more recent policy about using celebrity faces and names is a little confusing. I'll let you know if you can order it from them, but for now: print it off yourself.
The candidates' frames come from an 1880 repeat print for the Garfield/Arthur ticket. I'd like to re-do that flag repeat but it's pretty tricky. Simple half drop; lots of background is what I can do now. No overlap!
The eagle is from a commemorative bandanna.
Check back on my Spoonflower shop to see if the 2020 political campaign print is available.
UPDATE: You can buy it printed to order at Spoonflower:
Here's the link.
Spoonflower and all of the e-commerce business is experiencing a lot of delivery difficulties. I've been getting complaints about slow arrivals in the mail.
Who would want destroy the post office that underpins so much of e-commerce?
UPDATE: Don't read the comments. I don't, but I hear they are pretty mean-spirited.
Thank you I can’t wait to order it.
ReplyDeleteThe flag print would have been great to have, but the eagle is outstanding!
ReplyDeleteOh thank you, thank you, thank you! I hope it is allowed on Etsy but for now I will print it out and make a quilt for my front door! As for undermining our US Postal Service - I think I hear Ben Franklin rolling over in his grave!
ReplyDeleteDo you have a Trump-Pence version we can print? Thanks.
ReplyDeleteWould you consider re-posting the Obama/Biden print? Or do you have a link for the original?
ReplyDeleteThere is no way in hell I would ever ever have anything to do with the Republican candidate. Perhaps you can find a clever Republican who will do you some fabric but clever and Republican seem to be an oxymoron.
ReplyDeleteThank you for being so clear about what you think of me. I had thought that even though we had different opinions, we could still discuss quilt history. Apparently not.
DeleteLove the Biden/Harris print! Would be great if Spoonflower could print it.
ReplyDeleteBest response ever Barbara,good work!
ReplyDeleteReminder ... request your absentee (or mail-in) ballot NOW. Fill it out immediately -- remember to SIGN it. If possible TAKE it to an official voting site. VOTE as EARLY as you can! Let me know if you need any help. I will help. silber.julieellen@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteKindness is so very rare now. Sad.
ReplyDeleteI found the wonderful President Obama print you did in 2012. I wish that was still available. It was very nicely done.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Barbara! Your candor is refreshing. I love the fabric, too!
ReplyDeleteThis is awesome - thank you!
ReplyDeleteThanks for this! You made my day. Point of clarification . . are you going to be printing and selling this fabric? are we to print it ourselves? or both? Again, thanks!

ReplyDeleteI thought you were interested in actual history. I see only the history you like counts. Very sad you put up such a nasty, disrespectful comment about President Trump. Indeed kindness and respect are rare indeed, but I thought someone that called themselves a historian would present themselves with more integrity.
ReplyDeleteAmen Kathy!
DeleteWOW. This is it, I'm gone. I know you don't care, but I do. Buh-bye.
ReplyDeleteMe too! How hateful, classless and rude. I used to be a fan and a student of Barbara's and I pushed her books etc in my classes. That over. 🤨
DeleteThanks. I would like to make some curtains for my bathroom!! I think that would be the most appropriate place for it.
ReplyDeleteAlso, have you noticed that Democrats always get nasty, cuss, and talk down to those who don't agree with them. If you notice, on TV, they always talk loud and over other people.
I thought the same ting about being a historian. May have to rethink this!!
Oh, this would make wonderful toilet paper!!!
ReplyDeleteWow, there is no escape, is there? I have spent the last 3+ years being called names by the current President and his followers. I have been treated as an enemy of America, even though I served in the military. For the eight years before that, I have heard you all call President Obama and his family some very vile names and try to thwart every action they made. Americans are no longer seeing themselves as one nation. Thinking of yourselves as a citizen of this country is foreign to you, because you are no longer recognizing, nor caring for your fellow citizens. You are all about yourself. Whatever generation in your tree goes back to WWII would be ashamed of your behavior. We pulled together, all for "the greater good." Shame on you.
ReplyDeleteMs. Brackman, I stand with you. I am anon because I don't have a blog due to this same troll behavior.
I find it ironic that people who love a man who does nothing but insult anyone who disagrees with him by calling them "nasty" or "stupid" or "Low-IQ"--not to mention taking vengeance against his political opponents (see: refusing to send money to California via FEMA because he was pissed at how "they don't like me") --can have the audacity to whine here about Democrats being mean to or not listening to anyone who disagrees with them. WE LISTEN JUST FINE. WE JUST LOATHE WHAT WE HEAR. Some people support a man who loves and fawns over Putin, who has just poisoned yet another enemy; the Saudi royal family, who dismembered an American journalist; and as of yesterday, complimented QAnon, the wack jobs who think a cabal of pedophiles is secretly running the country. Back in the day, I could respect and listen to conservatives who just had different ideas of the role of government. But now, your party has been taken over by the worst voices, who advocate and administrate racism, xenophobia, sexism, homophobia, and downright ignorance and hate. If you defend Trump you stand with all these things including the wackos of QAnon. I stand with those who have no patience with or respect for that. And I'm not going anonymous tho I respect the writer who did. You can hate me for being a liberal which means open minded and kind. Kindness does not mean tolerating hate and ignorance.
ReplyDeleteWell said, AOB.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry, but I don't think that AOB should consider herself to be kind. I don't lump a whole group of people together as one because I disagree with them. And many liberals need to take a look at themselves because if they are white, they have many people calling them racists only because you are white, you have lived a life of white privilege because you are white. This is not just rhetoric aimed at Republicans/conservatives - it's aimed at white people. There are white people that are racist, there are white people that may have benefited from being white; but there are also black people that are racist and have benefited from being black.
ReplyDeleteI think that most of us want the same thing and if we would stop the name calling and bullying, we could talk and compromise. I do think that the Democrats in Washington are upset with Trump because he has accomplished so many of the things that they have said they wanted to do for decades - now that it is done, what is there for them to do except to accuse Trump of doing all of the things that they have been doing themselves.
Let's all try to shut our mouths and listen more, we might learn something and find out that we agree on much more than we realize.
Huh. I thought I was on a cheerful funny quirky quilt history site. Turns out it's Facebook. When the site owner trashes her readers & won't moderate the combox so then commentors fight with one another... well, I'm out too. What's the fun in that?
ReplyDeleteVintageblessings said it well - "Kindness is very rare". Obviously missing here and it is obvious that "diversity" to a Democratic does not include political diversity. Very sad.
ReplyDelete"...but clever and Republican are an oxymoron." Good to know how the contempt you have for me, Barbara. No more books by you for me.
ReplyDeleteBarbara Blackman, I have folllowed you, bought all your books and taught historical quiltmaking for over 30 years. Barbara, you will never be a reference in a class from here on. I am mortified by your vitriol towards conservatives. In fact, so upset, I will let everyone I know when I teach classes how feel by quoting your exact words. Yes, I have copied and saved them.
ReplyDeleteHere are my two cents' worth to add. It's a question to ponder. I can understand why some of you are upset and angry about Barbara's response. And why some of you would have chosen to remove yourselves from anything to do with Barbara. My question to yours this, and I genuinely want to know. Have you ever heard Trump be mean or disrespectful to those who disagree with him? It seems impossible that you would not have heard his frequent name-calling of both Democrats and even his own chosen members of his cabinet, for example -- those who disagree with him. Here are only a few of the degrading invectives he uses openly and publicly. Loser, fraud, dumb, crazy, slob, ugly, flunkies, low IQ, low-life, unhinged, deranged, stupid, nuts, rapist. He called Omarosa, an African American woman whom he himself hired ... a "dog." We heard him say that "Mexicans are criminals and rapists" -- an entire group of people. He has called entire countries "shit-holes." You all know I could go on and on. But I won't. I will simply ask those of you who are so upset with Barbara that you would cut yourself off from her and her work -- have you disassociated yourself from Trump for insulting others on a daily basis? And if not, why not?
ReplyDeleteBut Nancy Pelosi is a peach!

ReplyDeleteTrump has nothing to do with this blog or today's thread. Objection is to Barbara's snark, "...but clever and Republican are an oxymoron." I expected better balance from an historian.
ReplyDeleteRepublicans also make quilts and we buy books, patterns, and fabrics. Why insult part of the buying public?
Because sometimes standing up against horrendous beliefs and the people who either actively hold them, or still worship a man who does, is more important than making money.
Delete"America will never be destroyed from the outside" When longtime friends and business associates, as well as close families become each others' arch enemies, we will certainly fail. No matter what, kindness matters.
ReplyDeleteI'm done here. Good-bye.
ReplyDeleteI really wish Barbara hadn't started this. When I go to a quilt blog, that's all I'm interested in. AOB, who decides who's horrendous (deplorable, if you prefer)? You, Julie, Barbara ...? How is insulting potential customers a good business practice?
ReplyDeleteMaybe you prefer calling people fat, or lying dog-faced pony soldier? There’s no need for anyone to call anyone else names, be rude or crass, or call someone who disagrees with you stupid, deplorable or anything else. It is disgusting and embarrassing to see adults behaving so badly! I support President Trump for 2 reasons, he is our President and I happen to agree with his policies for the most part. I do not agree with every word they comes out of his mouth, or from his Twitter feed. I also believe that he wants the very best for all of us in this country. I hope that we can all grow up and be respectful to each other.
ReplyDeleteWow...I'm surprised at how nasty, insulting and divisive you are to your blog readers who think differently. You have proven, once again, that your party is not the party of empathy and tolerance. I am no longer a blog reader. You can preach to your own choir.
ReplyDeleteBarbara... thank you for exposing yourself for the bitter small woman that you are. As a Conservative, I can tell you that we feel unsafe in our country. Since the election the left has become unhinged to the point of being dangerous. You are yet another example of this derangement.
ReplyDeleteI can no longer stomach looking at your books, so have tossed them in the trash. Now I am on to more gracious blogs. In these stressful times in the world, we need people who uplift us...not those who spew vitriol.
I wonder why none of the folks here who are so outraged by Barbara's insulting comment have spoken to my question (above): If you are throwing Barbara's books in the trash based on feeling insulted by her -- are you outraged by the President's DAILY "rudeness," insults, and name-calling? It seems me that it is only when YOU are insulted that you are upset. Is that right? Please help me understand the difference. If you are still here, please explain the apparent double standard. Trish? Florence? Virginia? You three are the folks who have published your names, and whom I know. I am truly trying to understand. I ask respectfully.
ReplyDeleteI've taken your bait before, Julie. You don't give a crap about my opinion. You just want me to state it do you can't tell me I'm wrong. Not going to expend the energy to play that game again.
DeleteJulie, I am not trying to get into a political fight. This is about us, not politics. How I feel about the president is not important. I felt that kindness should ALWAYS prevail between us. We are friends, colleagues, sisters, mothers and daughters here...all of us wrapped into the warm love of quilts. I do not believe that we should be using this blog for anything political, it isn't the right forum and there are plenty of places you can do that. Why can't we all just get along? ~trish
ReplyDeleteI discovered this blog today when I was admiring the author's "Modernist" fabric collection. Beautiful quilts, especially liked the ones made from shirting fabric. But I'm shocked by the comments on this page. We are far into this election year, and everyone has their own values and beliefs. I know who I will vote for, and I can only hope that enough other people feel the same way -- and vote. I consider it a crucial choice. Ms. Brackman's values and her aesthetic are what make her work -- research, designs and blog -- so interesting. Among all the art and artifacts, she found a way to express a political opinion in the spirit of past elections, by freely offering a design as a gift to any reader. My point is that it was not wrong for the author to express her opinion, and she should not be expected to then contradict or negate her opinion so that others can choose a version they prefer. I think it would be rude in any circumstance to ask for a different gift than what was offered. And with the intensity of the present political/social/economic situation in our country, it's no surprise that that request triggered a sharp response. Whichever way the election goes, we all need to respect the fact that our country is sincerely divided. Sensitivity doesn't come into play only after an insensitive request is made.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Trish. I hope you know that I, too, don't want to fight. I very much appreciate your response, though it does not answer my actual question. I respect you for engaging with me, and for using your name, rather than anonymous. Yes, some of us here are colleagues and/or friends. I am committed to keeping things peaceful and civil, which I think you may know about me. None of this dampens my affection for those here whom I know, and with whom I profoundly disagree politically. Still, my posts here are not political, even though the subject of the blog is. I am personally interested in what appears to be a Double Standard. How is it that some here are so upset with BB for insulting you and being rude and at the same timed maintain your association with, and support of, President Trump? Have any of you called out his rude and insulting behavior, as you are here with Barbara? I hopeI make sense. explain the Double Standard to me, please. Thanks again and all best -- JS
ReplyDeleteWow...my comment was cancelled! You can dish it out BB, but you can’t take it...that is how bullies are. I guess you didn’t like it when I said that I couldn’t stomach looking at your books and so threw them in the trash. What did you expect when you slapped me and by extension millions of other Americans in the face. Put yourself in my shoes...what if I had said this against you personally. I know....you would probably have said that you didn’t give a flying whatever about it, but I am not stupid and your arrogance to suggest that I am was hurtful. Secondly I like what President Trump does...I can deal with what he says as the alternative to him is so horrific....not Biden to be clear...I think he is a poor confused man that is being manipulated by the far left (some call it elder abuse). There are good decent Democrats left out there, but they are being highjacked by a far left agenda. So I am done with this blog...too much crazy and hate...have fun comforting each other...it doesn’t work for me. Bye-bye people....
ReplyDeleteP.S. I know that you will not have the courage to keep this exercise in free speech up on the internet, but I do hope some of your readers get to see it before it is deleted...big brother is watching....oops, pardon me...big sister!
I am responding anonymously, because to do otherwise in the current environment would be unwise...have a good day....
Julie, Just chill! This is a quilting blog and both you and Barbara went off the rails. You both exposed yourselves as bigoted lefties and those of us who don't agree with you are free not to buy her books. You are free not to vote for President Trump. It doesn't diminish his actual accomplishments for which I appreciate him very much. As far as posting anonymously, it's simply prudent. There are very real risks of doxxing and actual assaults on conservatives. The right just don't do that to the left.
ReplyDeleteLet's just get back to quilting...please.
No comments were cancelled ... they are all still there. (One woman removed her own comment.) But the "throwing Barbar's books in the trash" comments are there -- both of them.
ReplyDeleteVirginia, It is not my intention, ever, to bait others. Here, in this discussion, I am asking for someone to explain what looks like a Double Standard. So far, no one has helped me understand the dissonance. Going back to earlier times with you, though ... for many years, you and I have held very, very different opinions on politics. I disagree heartily with some of your opinions, but I hope I have never been disrespectful of them. It's not that I don't "give a crap" about your opinions. I respond as best I can with "arguments" for my positions -- but that is not disrespect. Disagreement (with respect) is inevitable and healthy, from my point of view. If I have ever been disparaging, demeaning, or insulting to you, I sincerely apologize. (Please note: I do not, and have not, defended Barbara's comment, which I see as insulting.)
ReplyDeleteWow. As a historian, I would expect better from you, Barbara. Sad day indeed.

ReplyDeleteA GREAT SPELL CASTER (DR. EMU) THAT HELP ME BRING BACK MY EX GIRLFRIEND.
ReplyDeleteAm so happy to testify about a great spell caster that helped me when all hope was lost for me to unite with my ex-girlfriend that I love so much. I had a girlfriend that love me so much but something terrible happen to our relationship one afternoon when her friend that was always trying to get to me was trying to force me to make love to her just because she was been jealous of her friend that i was dating and on the scene my girlfriend just walk in and she thought we had something special doing together, i tried to explain things to her that her friend always do this whenever she is not with me and i always refuse her but i never told her because i did not want the both of them to be enemies to each other but she never believed me. She broke up with me and I tried times without numbers to make her believe me but she never believed me until one day i heard about the DR. EMU and I emailed him and he replied to me so kindly and helped me get back my lovely relationship that was already gone for two months.
