I was there on Wednesday and there are already several posts on my blog, though my head is still reeling from seeing some of the eighteenth and nineteenth century quilts -

What wonderful quilts. I love the first one and the use of fabric designs for the appliques.

Thanks for whetting my appetite! Vicki and I are traveling to London in May to see the exhibit. How exciting to see some of the beauties as a preview.

Like Susan I was lucky enough to go to the preview - if you love historical quilts then you will be thrilled by the quality and beauty of the quilts from the 1700s and 1800s, if you enjoy exploration of the social and historic context of quilts then definitely get the book that the Curator Sue Pritchard has edited to go with the exhibition it is wonderful - I will be dipping into it after posting this. If you enjoy seeing the modern take on quilting then you might conclude that quilts made by well-known artists that normally provoke reaction using other media have attracted press coverage and opened up this exhibition to a wider audience but that the exhibitions such as the Festival of Quilts at the NEC have a better display than the V&A (which is what I think!)

I enjoyed the exhibition thoroughly and completely and had a wonderful day and I would highly recommend it!

I had the fun I seeing the V&A exhibit on opening day and it was great. I could spend as much time as I liked studying the fabrics in the quilts. I thought the social history was a wonderful addition that you don't find at most quilt displays. Last time a saw that was an exhibit of "dust bowl" quilts that came to California. It was at the Steinbeck Center in Salinas, California.
